Audi A4 keyfob problem - assistance please

Apologies if this topic has cropped up before, I have searched and not found anything. My problem is that the missus washed my jeans with keyfob in pocket ( doh ! ) and now its not working. I have a spare which has never worked but kept as key works door and ignition. My query is what do I do ? Is my only option to go to Audi dealer and part with a load of beer vouchers ? Any pointers would be appreciated.

Firstly, confiscate all shoes, credit cards etc for one week!

Then, dismantle it as far as it will go Let it dry as mush as possible, and try it again with a new battery. The SMT componenet don't tend to fail, but depending on the wash given, they may have.

If you are in to electronics, you can try beeping out some of the components, if not, then it's money time.

Quite a few specialists have hte kit to recode keys too, you don't need to pay a main dealer 120+VAT/hour for the privelige.

There is apparently a method to recode the key something along the lines of putting the key in the door then pressing one of the buttons for x seconds and it recodes itself or could be the ignition not sure.

once went swimming with the audi key in my pocket (I was quite drunk at the time!). Simply took it apart, let it all dry out, put it back together again and it's worked perfectly since

My Grandfather jumped into a swimming pool on holiday in 1998 with his Mercedes key in his pocket, he just opened it all out, lay it in teh sun for a short while, re-assembled it and it was fine. Still works today!

What sort of remote do you have?

I bought the remote part of the flip key on ebay and recoded it to my 1999 A4 with no problems at all. Instructions were easy enough to find through google.

Just make sure you get the exact same part number as your old one.
