Which one? Audi A8 or V8
Discussion
Hi guys. I am thinking of chopping in the Monaro for a cheap barge and getting a 60s muscle car for the weekends.
Currently barge wise I am trying to decide between these two:
1995 Audi A8 4.2 with 120k & unknown history for £2,100.
---or---
1993 Audi V8 with 125k & fsh for &1,990.
The V8 is rarer, has the racing diff, has history and looks more old school (a good thing).
The A8 is newer, aluminium, quicker and probably more comfortable.
Your thoughts please?

The V8 is pretty awesome and retro. I suspect it's worse in every single way than an A8 though. The biggest difference is probably image - to most people the V8 will look like a retro irrelevance (which it perhaps is!) but the A8 a quality luxury German saloon.
I'd get whichever had leather and had the best feel to it in terms of history, past ownership! Given the similar prices I'd suggest the V8 may have the more illustrious past?

My brother ran a V8 for a while - lovely car but a bit of an orphan in terms of support. A good indy is the only way to service these cars as the franchise Audi dealer sent him out onto the road with no brakes! He wasn't pleased. I think the V8 is actually lighter than the A8 - it's based on the 100/200 shell. The only problem is that the high-reving 3.6 is crying out for a manual 'box which was available in Germany. The 4.2 V8 will of course be torquier. I'd probably plumb for the V8 on the grounds of rarity & interest - the A8 , good as it is, will just end-up being seen as another fairly common old barge. If you do get a V8 be prepared to set some pennies aside to refresh the suspension, otherwise you might find it a bit floaty and roly poly.
