considering one as a daily commuter, anyone had experience of these? have seen a few around from £17k ish, which seems very good for what you get - and 'potentially' 30mpg from a car that size is reasonable as well..

thks

When you say 'potentially' - eeeeeerm :s

Not a chance unfortunately, I found a 3.7 petrol V8 more economical. The 3.0 TDI is the one to have.

"potentially 30mpg"..... dear oh dear... the 4.2 V8 petrol is cheaper to buy, and I get 28mpg out of that on a run!

4.0Tdi is not particularly economical. Quite a noisy, grumbly engine especially when stretched. 3.0Tdi is much nicer and can get over 40mpg when on a run. Smooth as silk, reasonable power. Effortless cruiser in absolute luxury.

Have a look at these:

well that's interesting. will have to have a closer look at the 3.0TDi.

if i fin dthe right one I wil most likely keep ituntil it become uneconomical to repair etc, i wouild hope to get 150k or so out of one - is this realistic with the ( probably slightly more strssed) 3.0 engine?

thanks for the comments btw.

Mine is 2 yrs old and already done 65k.

Engine is still relatively unstressed due to good torque. Cruising at 80 is only 2100rpm.
If you need more torque, remap or a chip will solve that. Had the same engine in my A6 as well, love them.

is there some debate over the multitronic 'box thats on the 3.0TDi vs the full tip tronic in the lager engined cars.. also the 3.0s are only front wheel drive arnt they?

They are all quattro with a tiptronic box. Think it is only the 2.8V6 petrol that is FWD.

My 3.0 Tdi Quattro A6 is for sale at the moment, and yes it has the Tipronic box. I wouldn't say that the engine is stressed at all, and the car is quick and civilised.

looking into a few owners reviews, and they seem a little prone to issues - not necessarily with the engine, but electrics, boot hinges, dash and turbo seem sto be mentioned a lot - does anyone have experience of these problems or is it just a case of thos ewho have them complain about them and those who are happy stay silent?
