Hi.

I've been told that my Forge 007P Dump Valve is 'dumping boost'. This has been put down to a weak (yellow) spring. When the guy at ChippedUK stretched the spring (and following a few other things) he got 190bhp @ just over 18psi. Now the spring has settled in again, it's back down to between 14 and 16psi.

I've had a replacement yellow spring from Forge, as well as some shims, and nothing seems to make much difference. The only thing that seems to change anything is stretching the spring.

I know forge say the yellow spring is for 15 - 23 psi....but do you think that for some reason in my case the yellow one just doesn't cut it and I might need to try the blue one? I'm worried because on the forge website they say fitting a spring that's too hard could cause damage to your turbo.

Thanks for any help

I'm boosting about 18psi on my A3 1.8T sport, and use the yellow spring, with a shim or two, and have noticed no problem in over 18 months of remapped-ness. It peaks at 18-19, and settles down to about 16.

Does yours boost only peak at 16? I take it you have a guage (or vag-com) with which to measure it?

Hiya.

Yea I have a boost guage. Although it is slightly out, on the way home from ChippedUK it showed just under 18psi. He took a reading of just over 18psi, so although it is out a little, it's not by much.

Yea i'm now back to 14psi. I got it to 16psi the other day following stretching the spring, and with 1 spacer in, but since then, I guess the spring has settled again.

Spoke to Forge yesterday, one guy suggested I could try the blue spring, another suggested not to as I definately shouldn't need it! lol.

The only reason my assumptions lye with the spring is that when Jason at Chipped UK stretched it, he got 18psi and 190bhp. With it only now doing 14psi, I bet it's only about 170/175bhp or something.

Thanks again for your help

Yes if he is stretching the spring, it will naturally reced back to it's "resting" position. You cannot force the spring into a new shape that will last forever.

I do not understand why he deformed the spring to start with? Is the turbo the regular K03? If it is and they push it for more PSI than it can take, it may not be wise.

don't use the blue spring, sounds like the guy suggested it not know what he's talking about. The blue is for around 30psi IIRC. Your DV will never open with that. 18psi ain't nowhere close enough. You may as well block it off!!

Yea i thought EXACTLY that!

Sure putting a spring in that is too strong would be like removing the functionality of the DV completely!

Maybe my DVs leaking then or something? I've been told the only noise I should here from it is when I let off or change gear...however I can hear a noise (like rushing air - sucking) coming from it when I put my foot hard to the floor too.

Taking it to a place in Derby next week so i'll be sure to post any findings.

I'm about sick of it all now. Anyone wanna buy a golf? LOL.

Cheers!

give you £200! rofl

Seriously, you can test the valve. Take it off and push the piston up, put your finger over the vacuum hole and if the piston goes back to it's resting position it's leaking.

It is far more likely you have a boost leak elsewhere. Have you checked the hoses around your boost gauge? They vacuum hose that goes from the top of the DV is known for cracking. I replaced all those pipes with some 3mm vacuum hosing from Forge.

Have you checked the rest of the turbo piping around to the intercooler/throttle body? It's quite easy to do, but will require getting your hands dirty. Worth it though when the boost comes back!

My intercooler hose once popped off and it was 5 days before I could get it back on. Couldn't go over 50 without PPSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTTT!! rofl it was like another remap!! biggrin
