hi, anyone done a aircon conversion on a mk2 1.8 8v golf gti before, im thinking about doing it as i need to replace my heater matrix but would much rather rip everything out and fit aircon instead, i heard that a mk3 heater box and pump should do the trick, but unsure if dash will fit back in again and if the pipes will fit ok, is this true any help anyone can give would be much appreciated as it would be nice to be freezing my ass off during the summer lol

There are factory parts to fit aircon to a MK2, but I've never seen it retrofitted, only ever removed.

I would say the least headache inducing way would be to repair your heater as it is and investigate aftermarket kits for the aircon.

can be done, but looks messy as hell in the engine bay as the pipes run around the top of the bay towards the front.

worth finding a full kit from a breakers or could always try and fit full climate from somthing a bit later!

thanks for the advice, its appreciated, although its hard enought to find a decent mk2 golf in scrapyard, i think itll be even harder to find one with aircon, i think ill remove and replace my matrix and strip my other gti heater box and compare it to a mk 3 box and see if it can be converted to fit a mk2 and go from there, if its too much hastle ill fire it on the back burner until i find the parts i need, thanks again for your help
