MkV Golf GTi wheel bearing

A week or two ago I noticed a noise in my MkV Golf GTi which has got worse in recent days. Popped along to dealer who says it is a wheel bearing on the way out. I was a bit surprised at c37,000 miles, has anyone else on here experienced similar with the MkV Golf?
