Service Intervals - please advise....
Discussion
My partner drives a 56 plate Polo - bought "new" from a VW dealer in January '07 and now has 7500 miles on the clock. According the handbook - a service is due when the "service display" indicates this or after 2 yrs max. This weekend, a wee spanner symbol and "4300" beside it(?miles) has appeared on the display. The service book isn't particularly clear. Does this mean a service is due NOW and can it be taken it to an independent garage providing genuine VW parts are used (without compromising the warranty etc...). Thanks, Steven.
As far as I know this would mean 4,300 miles until the service is due - I don't know Polos personally but Audis give you gentle reminders when they're 1,500 miles away from a service and nag you when it's 500 away.
Your warranty will be unaffected provided the correct parts, lubricants and consumables are used when the service is done.

The normal service intervals for a Polo are 10K miles or every 12months whichever is sooner.
With the service indicator there are 2 counters running, one for mileage and one for time.
Prior to service being due it will pop up with a message giving mileage and time to service. When the service is actually due it just comes up with a spanner and a "bong" when you switch on the ignition.
After the 4300miles is dsplayed there will also be another number given which is days to service. I think you will find that this will be less than 30 days and why it's warning you. If you check it's probably been just under 12months since it's been serviced.
