Mk2 Golf GTI 16v...to buy or not to buy...?
Discussion
Getting rid of the 1.2 Bravo soon in search of something with a little more soul (at a budget of £1200!) Quite fancy one of these or possibly a mk3 although it'll prob be a shed for that money. Just need to know what to look out for, potential pitfalls etc. as I really can't afford a money pit right now! Any help, tips or suggestions are very much appreciated oh wise ones.

Buy on condition and if its had money spent on it. Too many have been run on a limited budget by young lads who can't afford it. A full history isn't necessary but lots of receipts are proof that its been looked after.
Ditto about usual rust spots and check under if possible. Mine has had to have both wishbones replaced and some welding as well. Rear calipers are a known problem as well as brake pipes corroding.
