Chaps

help thinking of ordering an RS6 but have heard horrific stories about the fuel consumption as about 10 to the gallon any comments.

Drove the S4 and the RS6 and found that both cars were good performers, yet the S4 I drove averaged 22 on my test drive.

At present I drive a Carrera 996 Cab (when I am not in the Viper which by the way does 26-28 on a run))and love it to bits but need more space, had a gen 1 S4 and thought it was a great car.

Help

IMHO the RS6 is a nice car, but a bit of a lard. RS4's will hold their value better (especially now) and the upgrades available (still less than the cost of an RS6) make it a much faster car altogether, ideal for trackdays.

Without the NOS I run 550bhp on 1.55bar boost and still get 28mpg on a run......

Must say the RS6 exhaust note sounds better though.

Never driven an RS6 but having replaced my old shape S4 Avant with a new shape one I am very happy. Have had a couple of problems - now fixed - and am impressed with the performance of the car. Basically for acceleration it is midway between my Merc CLK 500 cab and my Maserati 3200GT manual.

The S4 is, of course, a much newer chassis with the new A6 due out in a year or so. The choice until the S4 comes out with an auto (late this year?) is which gearbox you want. IMHO Audi autos are not the best and with RS6 production not limited (and values falling), I would go for the S4 and save £20k to spend on something else (Lotus 340R?)

is there any negotiation on a new S4 avant from a dealer?

What probs did you have, how was audi customer care?

2 or 3% off should be possible.

Two problems:

1) Car delivered with rear suspension transist cones still in place - easily fixed with much egg on face at (un-named) dealer; and

2) Car had insufficient and hestitant acceleration. Computer showed a fault but diagnostic lead required to specifically identify it not in the UK (should'nt buy a just launched car!). Audi UK said they had another car with similar problems caused by a faulty knock sensor. This has been replaced and things are now excellent. This took a week to fix but the dealer did their best and did give me another A4 to use.

How long are they quoting for delivery?

I also went for the aluminium trim to get away from the 'carbon fibre' I had on the old S4. It looks much better but I was a little upset when the loan car (A4 2.0FSI Avant) had the same trim!

Heated seats are excellent but I can't say I agree on Nogaro Blue - mine's in the much more discrete Moro Blue.

I find the front armrest, auto dip inside mirror and folding outer mirrors useful too (all cost options in that great Audi tradition - Its great that leather is extra on an S4 but standard on the S3 and TT!).

However, its the small things on the S4 that really impress - like the storage bins under the front seats I found after a few weeks and the fact that the tailgate can be pushed upwards once opened by an extra couple of inches.
