A friend (London based) is thinking of getting Q7 (4.2TDI) and would like to test drive one for the day. The dealers he has spoken to so far will not do it. He is happy to hire one for the day but cannot find anywhere that will do it.

Any ideas???

I applied for a test drive of a new RS4 Avant on the Audi site.

They couldn't have been more helpful - I was given a split new Sprint Blue RS4 Avant with a full tank of fuel and the salesman said just bring it back when you are ready.

i'd choose another dealer as that one clearly doesn't want to make the sale

They can be difficult for private punters to access, but most (all?) car manufacturers have corporate / business / fleet sales departments who will generally deliver a car to your home or office and leave it with you for 2 or 3 days.

Try asking for the Business Sales person in the dealership, or calling the manufacurers fleet sales department directly. The normal salespeople will often deny such a facility exists (they may not even know).

Very true, I had a job delivering cars for such an outfit when I was between jobs.

This is the down side of to many test pilots

Case in point, this chap

Seems to make a habit of it.
