Hi my mate is thinking of getting himself a S3, does anyone know what sort of 0-60 performance can be reached on a 2000 reg S3. Planning on having a Revo remap as well as anything else you can suggest i'm tryin to get the 0-60 time too around 5ish from the standard 6.4, the reason is he is thinking about getting one instead of a E36 M3

Mate, you'll need to do an awful lot to get an S3 down to 5 secs to 60.

I'd imagine you'll be looking at remap, decat, free-flo exhaust, CAI, larger turbo and ic.

Personally I'd take the E46 M3 if possible

I recently got a S3, reasonable enough car, but its only 225bhp.. sure you can tune it to 300 brake, but your still going to need to lose some weight to get to the 5 second mark, which kinda defeats the object of the S3...

And IMHO, theres more to performance than a standing start... but if thats all he cares about, he should get a caterham.

Fidgits> agreed mate. They're a lovely car, pretty quick. But 60 in 5 will be hard.

Cheers guys. In relation to 0-60 its just that he feels that it needs to be around the 5sec mark because his is around 6ish but also has four seats, he's had a two seater for a couple of yrs and now wants something that has a nice interior and is built better than his toyota. I'll tell him what you guys think and see which way he goes

A remapped S3 should be able to manage 0-60 in around 6 seconds. It is actually quicker than that time would suggest due to the gearing which means you have to change into 3rd to get to 60. It's a heavy car so it would take a considerable amount of work to get it down to 5 seconds. If this extra second really matters that much then an M3 is probably a better bet but they are very different cars so driving them both is the only way to know which is the right one.
