vw passat w8 4 motion brakepads

can anyone tell me if i need a 4 pad set or 8 pad set ??
I managed to "clip" a stone in a verge and mince both my left hand side alloys &tyres :-( at the weekend so replacing all the break pads at same time as getting replacement new alloys + tyres (previous ones only months old :-( )
