Just wondering what the best way to hook up an ipod into a A3 with the Bose stereo is?

In the Porsche I have a Dension kit, with a dock, charges, control from head unit, anyone used one in an Audi?

Not tried the Dension kit myself but Audi did make an i-pod adapter kit of their own to fit your A3. I think it works the same way.

Essentially it uses the CD changer control so you cannot have the factory fit CD changer AND the i-pod working simultaniously.

Audi Symphony Hi-Fi is still fine though as the changer is internal.

Audi withdrew the kit due to a few control limitations and a new revised one will no doubt be available very soon if not already, but the VW kit is still available and works same way. A wire can pop out in the centre console / glove box / anywhere within reach to plug in i-pod.

Budget for around £100 - £150 fitted.

The audi ipod connection kit is a joke , dont bother , desion fm link would be better , as the audi syatem doesnt display track names and will only allow 6 albums ie 6 discs , big rip off .

The Audi one is OK so long as you organise your playlists in the following way:

The first 5 playlists correspond to CDs 1 - 5 on the CD display of the head unit.

All other tracks on the i-pod are under CD 6.

If you can't display the track names then you have an Audi up to 2006.

Mine is like this and it doesn't cause me any bother, bearing in mind that CD track names don't appear either...

2007 MY onwards with the newer double DIN Hi-Fi units (as are now standard on the A3 / A4 range) have an info button on the menu that can display track names on i-pod and CD.

Hi,

Slightly off topic, but does anyone have any info on the Audi Music Interface (for my A6) being available in retrofit kit?

spoken to a number of dealers, some are totally clueless (in gernal terms rolleyes) and others are clueless on release dates.

Does anyone know of any official release date/available of the retrofit kit? I Sooo need my iPod in the car...

Thanks,

J

Hi Jonesy.

Yeah AMI was released for factory fit for Q4 2006.

It was promised to dealers that a retro fit kit would be available...

This has not yet transpired to my knowledge.

I'm back at work tomorrow and will check.

However I thought it looked massively expensive as to me it included the i-pod / aux input, but also a CD changer capable of reading MP3 files from CD.

A CD changer is usually £220 + VAT at cheapest, so factor in fitting, and the other gubbins, and it looks expensive to me!

For £250 its still a rip off imo , standard fit audio still has a long way to come.

But it should be about £150 or under fitted?

When i last looked it was £250 factory fitted option, might have come down since then , still looks crap when you can get a kia cee'd with usb connectivity as standard , just plug in a 350 gig hd as your cd player asnd away you go .

Thanks Drybeer,

I already have a 6CD changer so wouldn't want to be buying a second.

From what I've been told, the factory fit AMI option is about £200, so I'm hoping the retrofit won't be that far off??

thx,

J.

Hi.

No it wouldn't be to order a 2nd CD changer I don't think.

I don't know prices for sure, but I'll keep my ears open.

Factory fit is always much cheaper than the dealer fit option.
