Is the standard (non quatro) Audi S2 front wheel drive or rear wheel drive?

wikipedia said:
Audi developed a sports version of the 80 / 90 in 1991, based on the B4 platform called the S2. This featured a 2.2l 20-valve turbo engine derived from that used in the Sport Quattro. It came as standard with Quattro all wheel drive and featured a heavy-duty manual transmission, initially 5-speed and then upgraded to a 6-speed for 1993.

Just to let you know, there was never a non quattro S2 as they are definatly all quattro. Also Audi dont make rear wheel driven cars, they only make front wheel drive and four wheel drive systems.

If you ever you want to find out what they are like, drop me a line.

Thanks for the replies chaps thumbup

Thinking of this one as a track car but have read that the pre-93 cars had weak gearboxes. This certainly looks quite a bargain at the moment, but may bid higher.

It's only 1st that's particularly weak on the early boxes.

I guess it depends how much power you have going through the box, but I wait until 2nd and 3rd to put my foot down.

Never had a problem on my S4 which has the same weak 1st gear as the S2. If you're doing full bore launches with the car fully laden then i'd imagine it would become more of a problem.
