Hopefully in the not too distant future I will be looking to get me next interesting car. Somewhere up there on the list is a UR Quattro (Yertis's fault) so I'm doing a little research.

From the looks of it I'm probably going have a 10v car as all the 20v's are above my budget, and I'd rather have a good older car. Having said that I'd like to get an idea of the performance of each of the variants, and find out if there is anything specifically to watch out for.

Many thanks

Try the "quattro workshop" near Lutterworth (01455 208037). Roger (the owner)is the tech secretary of the quattro owners club (worth joining, by the way) and all round encyclopedia of knowledge wrt to quattros and their maintenance. He has cars for sale, too.

Roger has maintained my quattro for nearly 10 years and i would not trust it to anyone else.

I would do all my own maintenace because i wouldnt trust anyone else with mine.

Not after having so called "Specialists" look at it, it turns out they didnt have a clue and were so amateur in their field of work.

I'm just back from a classic charity rally in the Trossachs. 9 UR quattro's blasting through the highlands what a sight. It's one of the few cars to come from the Fatherland with any caracter. It might be a twenty year old design but it can still give your evoprezzathingy a hard time!! Just make sure you sniff out a good one, as there is a lot of tat out there.
I have a cheesy grin on my face every time I get in my 20V.

Dont take these as gospel but from my failing memory I seem to recall the following:

10V WR 200bhp 0-60 7.1 Max 135
10V MB 200bhp 0-60 6.3 max 137
20V RR 220bhp 0-60 5.9 max 138

The Autocar roadtests put the WR at 7.8 and the MB and RR both at 6.3 for the 0-60.
I also have a Performance Car test where the MB did 0-60 in 6.0 which is the best Ive seen.

Although the 20V is rightly regarded as the best, the MB is a good compromise of value and enjoyment. They get a few small but worthwhile improvements over the earlier WR cars such as a water cooled turbo, better brakes and a less lag. They also sound very fruity. I ran mine up to 140K miles with no major problems.

Sounds about right.

The RR is much more linear under acceleration due to lack of lag and some would say that subjectively it doesn't feel that quick. It's also quieter than either of the 10-valvers.

Not sure whether any of you were fans of the recent TV series "Life On Mars" where a DCI Sam Tyler goes back in time to the 1970s to be part of the Manchester Police force (far better than it sounds) but if so, you'll know that on of the "stars" of the show was a brown Cortina Mk 3. Well, there's going to be a sequal set in the 1980s, caled "Ashes to Ashes" where the star is reported to be .......an Audi ur quattro. Excellent, I say. I just hope that they do not knock over too many dustbins with it, as they tended to in the original series. Note that the actual Cortina used in the series was recently sold for £40K on ebay, I believe.

Ah. Sounds like if I want one I'd better start looking!

Before the uninitiated realize how good these cars are.
