I am seriously thinking of going for an RS6 or RS6 plus, but understand that they can have major reliability issues. My Evo 7 that I recently sold after 5 years and 50k (miles)of ownership was bomb proof, although it did use clutches/ discs etc which was understandable.

Do they need to be driven regularly or do they prefer lower mileages?

In my opinion, the warranty is an irrelevance if it is stuck in an Audi garage for weeks on end, however polite and helpful the staff are!

Mine was a nightmare but others seem to be Ok. Have a look on RS246.com you should be able to find lots of info over there.

The list of things on mine which went wrong are

1- DRC system failed and needed to be replaced
2- Engine managment problems
3- Sensor problems engine out....
4- Tyre pressure system failed
5- CD player failed
6- Front parking sensors failed
7- Rear wash wipe failed

My car had only 35000 miles on it and full AUDI service history in the end Audi took it back and gave us a full refund. I had the car 4 months but 3 of those it was at Audi.
All I can say if you want one go in with your eyes open and don't get one with out a warranty unless your really rich.
I've now gone and got another TVR as it can't be any worse than the Audi

as above - get a warranty/buy from dealer

2 new valves on the suspension will cost the same as a years Audi warranty

In 12 months/20K miles I had £5K of warranty work - mostly a driveshaft oil seal leak (engine out) gearbox sump leak, then niggles....like new DRC valves, tyre pressure sensors, door mirror heater etc

I wouldnt own one without audi warranty myself - mine had 35K on it when I got it, 52 plate, did 20K miles and then changed cars as I didnt need the room anymore

Thanks guys - Sounds stressful, I think that as your two replies are tales of woe, I will look at an RS4 Avant or something else from the fatherland.

not stressful at all - mine was off the road for servicing etc for 5 days total in 1 year/20K miles

just make sure you buy from a dealer, with warranty

they are awesome cars - nothing comes close for the performance/practicality combination

I would have another one if I needed the space

hi there, i've got an audi RS6 and i cannot tell you how much of a quality car it is. i didn't really need the space in the car, but it does come in handy.. my car seems to be pretty good as far as problems, i.e. there has been nothing go wrong with it in the last 6 months. before that, it was just a replacement DRC and that's been in for quite some time, look after the car and the car will look after you.

as with any car of this type, they do have to be looked after or they will be costly.

i would recommend this car to anyone.

Thanks guys - In my youth, I owned a couple of Metro Turbos (the second one was an insurance replacement for a stolen one)and the gearboxes were regularly failing at vast personal expense.Everytime that the gearboxes were fixed, I thought that my problems were over!

The Audi is a totally different kettle of fish, apart from the intention of squeezing considerably more(in the Audi's case massive) power from a standard engine.I have been super cautious since my Metro days and was further (unofficially) warned by an Audi group buyer that they could be unreliable. My trouble with people who work in garages is that they generally get to see the broken ones!

Happy speeding.
