I have a W8 Passat that needs new front discs and pads.

GSF & Euro car parts have said that parts for this are only available from a main dealer. Unfortunately the main dealer has quoted me over £650.

Does anyone know if discs and pads from a different manufacturer / model will fit. Seems a lot of money to pay for standard items so wondered if I could get a aftermarket alternative (Tarox etc)

I don't know, but to compose a shortlist I'd start with cars that have the same wheel fitting (PCD + diameter), and for safety's sake weigh about the same!

Aftermarket people will just want to know dimensions.

Who gives a fcensoredk what they weigh. If you are planning to go to an aftermarket agent, I'd suggest a visit to a motorsport vendor for some plain discs or separate rotors and bells.

AP will walk you through your selection here:

Another option worth persuing is sourcing the discs from a VW agent outside of bLiars robbing blighty. Email some mainland europe VW dealers, and even try the US ones. With current exchange rates importing is the way to go, just remember that there may be duties and taxes to pay to clear from customs to yourself.

Read the post carefully, I'm guessing the weight of the car makes a difference ??
You don't want discs designed to stop a 1,000kg car if they're going on something that weighs 2,00kg.

I wouldn't be surprised if other models use the same set up. Perhaps the Phaeton, Audi A6 (V8), or even other Passats (4motion).
Unlilkely that VAG will design brakes specifically for one low volume model.

Is there a VW equivilant of realoem ?
