Just bought an S4 :)
Discussion
Having owned four V8s, I've just lowered myself to the level of buying a V6, albeit a twin turbo'd one. In summary, I don't know why it took me so long.
Actually, I'd been unfairly prejudiced against V6s by driving lots of American V6 hire cars which all sucked, big time. Lots of V6s that sounded like four-bangers, in short. That all chagned when I drove a friend's A6 allroad with the 2.7 twin turbo petrol engine a couple of weeks back. That set me thinking: I wonder if Audi do that engine in something smaller with a manual box. Oh, look, the previous generation S4.
The rest is history, as they say. I picked up a leggy one from the classifieds section here, pretty much the only post-facelift car I could stretch to. (I've been a bit naughty, since I haven't yet sold the Jag XJ8 that the Audi's replacing. Ah well...) On the plus side, it had a very complimentary check over by an Audi specialist, has full history, is in very good nick and it drives very well. No creaks, rattles, funny noises, etc etc. In short, it looks to have been well looked after, and has had money thrown at it when necessary (and when not, it seems).
So, at least until the turbos pop, I'll be the one kicking around here with a cheshire cat grin. They're rather good, aren't they?
Must resist the temptation to chip/remap it...
