Mk5 Golf water leak.

I have a Mk5 VW Golf 2.0 Tdi 3dr. I notice there was a damp smell in the car, when I checked the boot the carpet was soaked and the spare wheel well had a fair amount of water sloshing around in it!!

The car has been back to the VW main dealer in Tunbridge Wells where the source of the water was discovered to be the rear 1/4 panel. The initial report back was "We know where the water is coming from, but we don't know how to fix it" - not a great start.

The car was in the garage/bodyshop for 11 days trying to sort this.

I have not been able to get to the bottom of what about the rear 1/4 panel has been leaking but I thought it might be useful to let other Mk5 owners know about this fault.
