Hi need ur help guys,
Ive got a mk4 golf and whilst driving it today i went to pull away from standing and have complete power loss from the engine. When i put my foot down the revs rise but im hardly moving and i can only top 45mph.
Any help would be realy appriciated.

What age is you car, is it a PD TDi engine it could be similar to this:

Thanks for that but its a 2001 petrol model. only done 50,000 miles.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping? Is the car standard? try unplugging your MAF and see if that makes any difference.

The car is standard part from a stainless exhaust, sounds as though the cutch could be slipping because the engine itself sounds fine. Thank you for your help

As stated earlier unlug your airmass meter and see if theres any difference.

I had an issue with my 1998 1.8 Passat. I tried unplugging the MAF sensor and the engine ran worse so tonight I removed the MAF sensor to find it covered with black rubbish...dusted this off and the engine runs good as new.

However the car was still capable of breaking 60mph (albeit at a push) but did sound a little like it was running on 3 cylinders. If it's a slipping clutch you should notice the revs rise while the car doesn't get much faster.
