Need help, Keep My 4motion or Buy an S3 ?
Discussion
I have a 2001 Golf V6 4motion unmodified 50k on the clock. I am very happy with its performance. I was looking at an s3 before I got the golf, but I could not afford it.
Question is, Is it worth me selling the golf and buying a late facelift 225bhp s3 ?
If I was to buy one I would probably take it to MTM. I would have to sell my golf and spend an extra 3-5k extra to obtain an S3.
IS IT WORTH IT ???
Thanks in advance

Having never driven a 4motion its hard to say.
I know that an S3 would be slightly more appealing for me because an Audi Turbo on a 4wd system is superb!! The beauty of having a turbo charged car is that they are highly tunable and getting a decent chipset would improve the characteristics of the car no end.
Have a drive of one and see what you think, if you can, try and get a ride in a stock S3 and then get a ride in a properly mapped S3 and see the difference.
I was after a 4motion for a while, but I bought an S2 instead.

dirtbag,
I have a 4motion also, glad you've enjoyed yours!
Mine has the R32 suspension, milltek exhaust and some wider 18" BBS rims with Yokohama tyres and i am really enjoying it and surprised at it's driveability too- aside from the short gearing. If you can't buy a younger S3, why not treat the 4motion to some new suspension and engine bits?
Depends what you want; the economy is rubbish but the go and the sound is great!
You'll hardly be sorry to drive either :-)

Had it 5 years, and I still really enjoy my S3.
Ive done IRO 70,000 miles and the dampers/bushes are looking like they will need replacement soon, but apart from that it runs like a dream. I wouldn't be scared of an older one, it still feels like it was hewn from stone.
Mine has also been remapped by AMD several years ago. I get around 255-60 (tested) bhp and 30mpg. A tidy package, it still looks class and modern. I won't be getting rid of it for a long time. Just make sure the coil packs have been replaced!
You won't regret it.

Thought I'd add my 2 pence worth..
I've had mine for nearly 6 six years; an early facelift but a 210 rather than 225.
I think it's a fantastic car. Interior and exterior still look smart, still has more poke than most people expect (it's always stayed as stock), no massive outlays except the usual wear and tear items (tyres, pads, etc.)
It's got 95k on it now and all is fine (seals on the dampers are on the way out though as previous post said).
I've no experience of the Golfs, but my gut feeling is you might not get too much more grin from a stock S3.
That said the turbo shove in the kidneys is still cool after all this time/ miles.
