I'm toying with the idea of buying one of the above, putting an uprated clutch in and getting Jabba to breathe on it. Apparently, they can get 340-360 lbs/ft of torgue out of it.

Sensible or suicidal (of a financial nature)?

No clutch upgrade and mine is also a multitronic box.

We basically held the torque back and the power to around 175bhp. Torque 280 lb ft.

Also the power comes in at 2000rpm. This means that it is still very calm and sophisticated around town and minimises wheel spin.

On the motorway when I'm cruising at 80...I mean 70 mph I am right in the leathal zone should I press the loud pedal.

It is significantly faster than:

new a4/golf 140 bhp
Audi a6 2.5 Tdi 180 bhp

Most other diesels except the bigger engined 3.0-6cyl cars....where It can still hold it own !

Two words:

Do it.

Would have to agree, I have previously had a Fabia vRS with a RICA remap. I went on to win the Tuner GP diesel drag strip challenge in the car. 6.5 0-60 on my first go, and 15 sec 1/4 mile. Very little smoke to boot!
