Thinking of a 3.0 Diesel Q7 as our 'family car' Anyone got one? I like the look and having had several Audi's already (still have the RS6) I like the brand so am tempted over say a Rangey sport..

Not tried the Q7 but definitely add the ML320CDi to the list of options to check out (driven the merc, off road, on road and on racetrack!).

its not supposed to be as good as the new X5 and is glacial in its 3.0d form from what I've read.
may be worth looking at the ML and X5 and maybe the pug ugly but quite good Cayenne.

Krusty, I have test driven the Q7 desiel and V8. Both great cars. My father has just bought the V8. Drive one before making your mind up. I personally do not like the X5 or ML look, both inside and out, so for me the only other alternative would be the Range Sport & Porsche. Again I have tested both.

overall, for me it would be the porsche as the handling is just fantastic for its size, but be carefull, they get through tyres in 9k miles. It's a design fault, same as the VW.

Good luck.

Hi Krusty,

The Q7 hides its bulk spectacularly well and rides and handles as well as if not better than many cars half its size. It is tremendously practical too, either with comfortable seating for up to 7 adults. The 233ps 3.0TDI is by far and way the most popular model at the moment but there are 4.2 and 6.0 V8 and V12 diesel versions on their way. The V12 will have 500ps and supercar performance.

Please email me if you would like to come for a test drive (I'm at Poole Audi) or wish to purchase one.

Have to agree - super vehicle on the road and great roadholding.

Had one for the weekend last month, a 3.0TDi S/line - More than capable.

Definately tempted.

Err no, it doesn't. Its massive. I had to use one for a day and in North London it was frankly a pain in the arse.

Not saying that its not nice if SUVs are your thing because it is, but it's as big as a van and the handling is, well, like a well sorted-SUV as opposed to a good saloon/estate car.

Had the V8 Q7 for a weekend and it is a big car, having said that it is lovely inside and beautifully built. We also had 7 adults in it in comfort. I had the RRS for a year and it drove very well but the Audi interior is far far better.
I would go for the new Cayenne S though unless you need the 7 seats or want the Audi interior...
