If anyone is considering buying the above car, be warned that the seller is full of sh*t, and a moron to boot.

Having claimed it has full VW service history, every stamp etc, we embarked on a 100 mile round trip today to see this car.

It was a lovely car, the paintwork was gleaming, there were very few scratches on it, it looked like a perfect example.

We took it for a long test drive, and then headed back to the sellers house to discuss the documentation and transfer the money!

I scrutinised the paperwork for my friend who was going to part with his hard earned, and in the service history I noticed it hadn't had the last due service stamped... and the stamp was 8,000 miles overdue. I asked what had happened with this service, and he said at first that it did get done, but not by a dealership.

So I asked for proof of this, and he said it's in the paperwork somewhere... So I rooted through and didn't find anything, and then he said that he and his mates changed the oil, and they didn't keep the receipt.

His story changed several times about several aspects of the car, and he seriously beleived he that we should take his word for it that the oil was changed, regardless of the hideous impact this would have on the re-sale value!

When we were test driving the car, he firstly said he doesn't drive it hard because he can't afford to spend lots of money on petrol, but later admitted that him and his friend had been arrested for "illegal racing" and was currently going through court proceedings...

Be warned.

Looking at the ad, it would also seem that the grille has a red stripe at in some pics but not in others?

scratchchin Now this is **almost** naming and shaming..........

But it is incredibly valuable to have this inside info from another PH'er.

I have often wondered if there could be an "in the classifieds" section, as it would really give buyers the inside line on the sellers. As long as it was kept clean - like the post above ^^

I am in no way accusing the original poster of this thread of lying, however I would fear that a section to discuss cars in the classifieds could be open to abuse should individuals wish.

Interpretation of the text of adverts, and phrases is not an exact science after all. One mans "excellent condition" may not be anothers - I recall selling my Sapphire Cos that really was in superb condition, and having some guy winge that there were a couple of minor paint chips on the bumper OF A 15 YEAR OLD CAR!!

Tell him there's £3,800 cash-in-hand waiting for him in the UK - he'll be sooooo tempted and the excuses will be great!
