Hi guys,

Just wandering if anyone on here has had any trouble with the indicator stalk on a newish VAG car? In the last week or so the indictors on my S3 (51 plate) have ceased to work properly! They are fine when operated with the hazard switch or when locking / unlocking the car, but only give one or two pretty feeble flashes (if anything) when operated with the stalk.

I'm guessing that it will just be the switch that the stalk operates that is duff, but I've never had one of these apart before so was just after some pointers on what to look for.

Cheers guys

Si.

Happy to be proven wrong,

But it sounds like a relay as opposed to the stalk to me...

The relay controlling them has a bi-metallic strip in it to supply the on/off timing of the bulb, and a split circuit in it for either left or right...

I suspect that relay is the culprit.

I think the hazard light function and alarm function of the lamps is set up a different way.

You could well be on to something in that case mate, my electonics knowledge is at about the same level as that of the average 7 year old, so I could well be wrong!!

You wouldn't have any pointers as to whereabouts the relay lives would you, I'm in work at the min so haven't got access to a manual at the moment.

Any more ideas greatly appriciated!!

I think it sits on the back of the hazard warning switch.

I'm probably wrong here but I think you have pop the radio out before you can unclip the bracket hold the switch in and pull it out from behind.

I had a similar problem which occurred on the way to the dealers for a service so I got them to take a look and it was the relay at fault.

99% the hazard switch. Just remove the radio and push hard on the switch and it will push out through the back, unclip the conector and shove a new one in.

I replaced the flasher relay on the girlfrinds A2 after suffering the same problem.

The part was about £20 and easier enough to replace but they are a bit of a stubborn bu66er to get out of the holder.

All sorted now, was the hazard switch that was duff.

Got a replacement from Europarts for about 30 quid. Once I'd wrestled the old one out it went back together dead easy!!

Cheers Si.
