White Golf GTI
Discussion
At the moment, maybe a little yeah, but isn't white supposed to be coming back into fashion again?? Think about living with the car aswell, do you wash your car regularly? The black one would probably be the safe bet but i don't reckon it will make that much difference to residual prices at the end of the day.
Tip, if you go for a metallic black don't go for a very corse one because one we look after looks rough now and its hardly done anything in terms of mileage!

I have to say I disagree.
For the past 12 months the figures on sales of white have been going through the roof, relatively speaking.
Even the Audi A3 now has a colour swatch of Ibis White in the spec pages,
My adfvice is go for white.
When I started in the motor trade a long number of years ago, it was alwasy said that white never "dates."
I still think this is true now.
When we get used new shape GTis and GT TDis in stock in Black or Black metallic, they sit for much longer than red, silver, and I'd be pleased to have a good white one or two!
Buy the white one.
As for washing, white is nowhere near as difficult to keep lookong respectable as black is. Trust me.

I love the look of the white one, but I fear it will hit residuals.
White has been out of fashion up until around a year ago, and though it is starting to come back in, 3 years down the line will probably see it out again. I also think that the market for white cars will be more limited, again affecting prices/resale.
I think black would be the safer bet!

Hi there - thanks for the tip on the black - So how many blacks are there, woudl you suggest getting the non metalic colour?
There will be more black cars as its the most accepted colour.
Back in the day, the least desired colour for the MK2 GTi was white, as was the MK3 Polo G40, no one wanted them, so were cheaper than other more run of the mill colours.
You could argue that the rarity would increase or stabilise its value, but the appeal will be to a small segment of the market come resale time.
TBH I love the MKV GTI in white, and much prefer it to the humdrum silver or black, I would just be wary about buying it due to the difficulties come resale.

Disagree.
White will be more individual, and I'd rather own it.
There will be a hundred black ones out there, and yours will stand out more.

I can only tell you market trends from what we are selling, and the way other customers are wisely spending their money.
Black is far from being the most accepted colour, sadly silver and variations of it are the most common.
Customers are stating openly they've had enough of silver. I do not for one minute think that this will make silver an undesirable colour for resale, but thankfully bright red, white, and even orange and yellow (see Focus ST and Megane R26) are gaining in popularity, and that's great!
This month alone I've sold two Audi S3s in Ibis White, and I see no problem whatsoever with the performance end of the market being in a traditional performance colour - white.
Bottom line is: Metallic will cost you more to buy when brand new to the tune of around £400.
White will not cost you £400, so even if you got £500 less for it after 2 - 3 years, are you really out of pocket compared to Silver or Black?
No.
But even so, I say buy White with confidence ON A GTi -
NB: this does not apply as effectively to non performance cars!

Fair enough, I never really thought of the initial cost of the white over the metallic colours. I had assumed that white was a close ground metallic(appearing as a straight colour but having the laquer coatings)
But as for yellow and orange, My favourite ST colour! But I remember the 1991 Nugget yellow Corrado being worth significantly less than other colours in around 1994, to the point that people were respraying them.

No that's fair comment...
Back then bold colours were viewed as being different to "normal" red, white, black, and the silver being wildly modern and popular thing hadn't even happened yet...
There are cars that will always be right in the correct colour.
An 80s 911 looks fab in Guards Red...
A 997 in guards red, not so good.
An Audi S3 in Imola Yellow looks good.
An RS4 in Imola Yellow, not so good...
A Lamborghini Gallardo in Orange = fab...
A ferrari 430...
Mmmm.
Odd isn't it!!
I would say the current golf carries White off better than a Mark II?

If I was getting one, personaly I would go for the non-metallic colour yes, just because of the one we look after! honestly, it just won't come up, i have t-cut it and waxed it and it still looks rubbish, a solid black seems to have a deeper shine and does look nice!
So im still here trying to get a golf - I really like the one being sold on pistonheads but cant get through to the chap selling it in B'ham. If its gone im going to have to look elsewhere and by the look of the current market ill end up with red or black which is regretful!
Why do so many cars come without leather?.................

Have a White 5dr mkV GTI. Was with a few owners of the red last night and they all said they wish they had been brave and went for white. I am glad I took the gamble. It looks very nice on the GTI.
On the why no leather, the VW leather isnt great and IMO not worth what they want to charge for it so I went with cloth and added the buckets as well.
