Just been and arranged a test drive of the new TT. Haven`t decided whether 2.0 or 3.2 but definately going S tronic. Would be interested on your views in general and specifically if the 3.2 is worth the extra £`s over the 2.0. Also be great if anyone has direct experience how they compare with Boxter/Cayman/911.

I tried to buy one when I decided I fancied a a swap from my 3 series.

Unfortunately I wasn't going accept a trade in of £5K below book or indeed what the BMW dealer was going to offer me for my car. In the end I have ordered a Z4 3.0 Sport Coupe.

It's a shame because I think the new TT looks a really nice piece of kit.

Wait until they bring out the 260 bhp 2.0 Turbo Quattro version,,,same running gear as the new S3 which is getting rave reviews...Autocar called the S3 the best performance Audi ever!!!!!!...............In the TT body this is sure to be a grear combintion.

I rather like it, loved the design ethos of the old one, even if it was dynamically compromised but I cant wait to get my mitts on one of the new ones.

I sell Audis including the new TT of course, and to knowledge this isn't happening - maybe at end of this TTs lifespan, like they did with the old shape TT quattro Sport 1.8T 240ps...

I have to say having driven both engine variants, unless you have a specific need for quattro because you have to deal with snow 4 months of the year or something - buy the 2.0T FSi S-tronic...

This engine is a peach - more than fast enough, and would be my choice.

I recently tried both a 3.2 and a 2.0. Obviously very different cars, 2.0 is fun once you wind it up and surprisingly nippy.

Nearly went for a 3.2, but in the end it didn't feel a "special" enough drive for the money (it felt like a good hot hatch, no shock there!). I've ordered a Z4 Coupe instead (and it cost less!).

Don't think you'd be disappointed with one though.

Thanks guys. The 260bhp turbo would definately bean attraction but according to Drybeer probably wont happen, at least for a long time (is that pretty definte Drybeer?). My options list contains lots of the usual stuff but would like your views on the following:

9X19 two piece alloys
Magnetic ride
SATNAV.....my dealer reckons not necessary for resale on a TT. I wouldn`t use it anyway.

Well I seriously doubt a TT with 265ps 2.0T as there is already a 250ps 3.2...

However I won't say categorically that it will not, as then I'll be proved wrong for sure!!

Certainly no talk of this now.

19" alloys - look awesome, but the newer RS4 style ones can be had as replica reproduction ones very cheaply and you can either sell or keep the 17" Trapez design ones...

IMHO the TT feels best on 17" alloys. The old one was the same - you lost a lot of steering feel with the 18" and bigger wheels, all in the pursuit of better aesthetical appearance...

My choice would be keep the 17s.

Magnetic ride is superb, although not cheap... The standard coil over shock set up is VERY well set up, the car remaining adjustable on the limit with the throttle and brakes, and backing off the throttle at speed adjusts the nose in neatly, the rear always digging in and finding more grip.

With this and the Sat Nav I would be concerned that if I really didn't NEED them I would get no money back for them at the point of resale...

So use your own judgement on them!!

Far better I think to add full leather, extended leather in your choice of colour, BOSE surround sound, Symphony Hi-Fi and i-pod adapter, Multi-function wheel, cruise.

I think you'll have a car for all occassions then!

Good luck I hope you enjoy it in 2008 when it arrives!!!

PS we have some on order and can change the spec to your preference to get earlier delivery!

Just taken delivery of this;

Loving it. Never drove the Mk1 as it didn't really float my boat, but love this. I went for the 3.2 for a few reasons. Firstly you get more standard equipment including full leather, bigger brakes, a great soundtrack & it makes some other upgrades less expensive, so much so that by the time i'd specced a 2.0 and a 3.2 the 3.2 wasn't that much more. Plus personally i wanted to move away from FWD and turbo cars. I know some of the guys who have the 2.0 having previously had Quattro Mk1's are finding the wheels do spin up a bit, even in third.

In terms of comparison to a Porsche, driving i can't honestly say. The old man thinks it's not too far off his Boxster S but admitted that if he had the TT he'd be happy to drive it in all weather, the porsche won't come ot if it's really wet. I think the interior of the TT is more 'GT' than the Porsche 'Sports Car' but the quality is superb.

If it's any help i also considered the Brera, the 350Z and the Z4 coupe. Didn't consider the 3 series coupe as i was initially aiming to take delivery in November... Brera is a great piece of design, especially the glass roof, just a shame it's under powered / heavy. Had it not been, it would possibly have got my vote. 350Z was great, but i've been put off by a) the dealer saying they're impossible to get hold of (err...) and my brother's new Nissan having to go back to the dealer once a fortnight because something else has fallen off. Z4 was nice, but realistically i need the option of four seats, however impractical the +2 are. Plus prices were high at the time i was ordering. Stunning looking car tho.

OK, I`m down to the following spec`.

S tronic, metallic, extended leather, symphony, bose, ipod, mobile prep (do I need the cradle?), parking, mirrors, multi func` wheel. I agree the SATNAV and magnetic ride will add little to the driving experience and I will pay the penalty at resale time. I thought I read in one of the tests that the 17in wheels just looked "too small". This is going to be a difficult decision because I love the look of the two piece but would hate to compromise the ride/handling. A 17in std on the 2 ltr, an 18in std on the 3.2 or my preference.....the 19in two piece. I agree with you Johnny, by the time I have specced both cars there is not a lot in it. The 2.0 £31,957.00 and the 3.2 £35,167.00 both with my choice of the two piece wheel. The Quattro and the sound track just might be worth the extra £`s even though the general concencus seems to be that the 2.0 is the sweeter engine!!!................mmmmmmmmmmmmmm??

2.0 definately more entertaining to drive, although I agree the V6 sounds different...

The thing is on a 2.0 with S-tronic - you just HAVE to hear it do a full throttle up-shift in 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th, the "wump" noise from the exhaust's vacuum are incredibly addictive, and to my mind better than the 3.2!

Happy driving which ever you choose!!

All sounds good. I'd think carefully about the phone prep, a lot of the guys who have it are finding it's next to useless and will only work properly with a few phones, has limited functionality with others and fails to connect with a lot. There's a sticky thread about it on the tt-forum (www.tt-forum.co.uk).

The engine is a personal choice i think. I knew that i didn't particularly want 200bhp going thru the front wheels, so opted for the 3.2. The fact it had quattro was a major selling point for me. Had there been a 2.0 Turbo Quattro, i may very well have opted for that but there isn't so it was a non-starter. The magnetic ride is a very good piece of kit. Essentially the same technology as fitted to the Ferrari 599. The consensus seems to be that if you think you will track the car, then it's worth having. It's an unknown quantity come resale time. Hope that helps!

The phone prep is superb.

Any Bluetooth handset that supports Bluetooth profile 2.0 and SIM access will work properly.

Any difficulties are usually that people are not storing numbers in the SIM, or that they need to upgrade their handset's software from the manufacturer website.

All our customers are fine,

There is a list of handsets which are available with adapter plates to go over the plinth on the dash from your local dealer. The adapter means the phone is charging, is WIRED to the car kist as opposed to Bluetooth, and furthermore is attached to an amplified antenna, for significantly better reception.

I'm just going from the input from guys who have it. I cancelled it on my order for a number of reasons. Putting numbers onto the sim isn't an option for me as i've got too many names, often with three numbers + email addresses etc for each contact.
