Hi, I want to lower my 1994 16v Golf GTi, I am going to use koni springs which will drop it about 35/40mm but keep the standard 15" wheels, has anybody got any experiences or advice if they have done it themselves? Cheers!

Use Eibach springs, best IMHO

Don't even think about keeping stock dampers, ride will be awfull, konis or boge turbo gas if on tight budget.

Alternatively run full Eibach pro set up dampers & springs & ARbs if you can afford em & poly bush the whole car, thats what my old Mk3 16v had & the diference over the wallowy crap they are as standard is staggering.

Hi,

I changed the suspension on my MK3 8V. I used one of the cheap Bilstein spring and damper kits. It was just about OK when I fitted it but over a period of about two years the springs at the rear just about collapsed and the car became nearly undriveable.

I've since fitted H&R springs which are a major improvement. I was advised that the Eibach springs may be too hard for my requirements.

Plan on changing the front top mounts and the rear bump stops. If you plan on keeping the car then it's well worth going for a complete spring/dampere kit (not Bilstein).

Cheers pp, i'm guessing you mean eibachs might be too hard for normal shitty road surfaces like we have in this country!

For the price of a shock and spring kit, might it be advisable to get a coulover kit?
I recently saw kits on ebay for £360 (FK Highsport-height only adjustable).
I spend so much money on suspension kits over the years to get the desired ride height and comfort, and eventually just went and bought an FK Konigsport (damper as well as hight adjustment) kit for around £500.
Apart from the coilovers, my favourite setup was the H+R spring/ Koni damper adjustable setup.
