Audi A3 3.2 V6
Discussion
I'm considering getting a 2-3 year old A3 3.2.
They seem like excellent value considering the engine and the possibility of the DSG, nothing comparable seems to come close on price - there maybe a reason for this I am yet to discover....
Just wondered if anyone had one and could tell me what realistic mpg (not from the display) they get on a nice steady run. Is Mid/Low 30s achievable at 60mph on an A-road?

I have a 3.2 V6 Golf R32 - 30 mpg is just about obtainable on a long motorway journey at 60 - 65 mph.
22 - 24 mpg is much more realistic for general single carrigeway roads. And that's some fun driving too!
Why worry about mpg with such a big engine?
Surely a 2.0 TFSI QS would be more appropriate for you. It will return 3 - 5 mpg more for only a small drop in performance.
200PS vs 250PS does sound a lot, but the 2 litre is 300 kg+ lighter & you can always get a £400 remap which will make up the difference.

The TFSI QS is out of my budget, they are too recent unfortunately - Golf GTis are too.
The reason I am worried about mpg is I currently drive a Volvo D5 and am easily averaging 45mpg and can get 55mpg on a nice run.
I've recently got a job change (a lot less miles) so want something with a lot of poke for less than 15k that's also a decentish sized car which isn't fwd.
But......I'm hugely reluctant because of the big difference in mpg - I don't want to spend more on motoring now than what I used to do with my Diesel even though I'm doing half the miles - if you get where I'm coming from!
Basically I want 200bhp+ that isn't fwd and under 15k but with at least 30mpg....

How about a 2.0 TDI 4 Motion/Quattro?
Again, a remap will give you the extra bhp.
They (AWD) are pretty rare cars though - VW/Audi stopped selling them in the UK because they weren't selling enough.
There will be plenty of A3 3.2s or R32s available for less than £15k but the let down is the mpg.
Personally I'd say feck it & get a 3.2!
Just my opinion...

Apart from the 4wd, I wouldn't see a 2.0 TDi to be much of an improvement on what I have at the moment - I could get mine chipped to 205bhp at the moment if needed.
I want something I can bounce off the redline if the mood takes me.
I don't I'll ever be satisfied - might just to have to settle for shite mpg!

I've got one, goes very well, DSG is good, my average MPG is 23, can get 26-28ish on a run (with A/C off), I suppose 30 might be possible on a 70mph motorway run with no acceleration, although I've never been the most economical driver, if the used values are low then I would say it's due to the MPG as otherwise running costs have been low.
3.2 it is then!
I can't see how you can get something else with that performance & economy for under £15k. Or more than that, come to think of it...
The A3 is much less of an obvious beast - it is quieter & depreciates more quickly.
The R32 is much more in-yer-face and has a firmer ride, and sounds sweeet!
You should find plenty of good used cars with FSH in either form for £11 - 15k
Good luck!

Must agree with you guys on the economy figures for the 3.2...
My one did between 18 and 23 mpg and that wasn't caning it everywhere!
Although I recently used a 2.0T FSi with DSG and found that it was doing 23 - 23mpg...
Your can only get 30 mpg by driving like my wife does
NO OFFENCE DARLING
