Afternoon,

Considering one of the above, but would appreicate an idea of the likely mpg.

Would it ever be able to crack 30mpg on a steady commute?

What have the owners of these cars experienced in the past?

I used to avg 25Mpg - guess you could get 30mpg if you stuck at a steady 60mph.

The original S4 did'nt have a V6, it had a 5cyl or a V8. Do you mean the B5 model mid 90's to 2001? if so, about 28mpg.

Yes, the B5 twin turbo one was around 98-01 and will do 30mpg with very gentle A road driving, mid 20's on the motorway and low 20's around town.

In mixed driving I tend to get about 25-26mpg......Even taking it really easy I never seem to get above 30mpg, where as on a gentle run a 3.6 911 was more economical, as an example.
Mine is a standard car, there appear to be considerable benefits to tuning the car and obviously this would encourage wider throtte openings and consequently less mpg.

To me the economy is adequate, but the low down torque available makes the car good to drive.

Agreed,
I regularly get 26/27 MPG on my mildly modded S4.
Use the right foot more & this soon drops though

Bristol <-> Bath daily commute returns 20MPG for me. I see around 27-28 at 70mph motorway on cruise.

B5 2000 S4 with MRC remap, miltek and gutted pre-cats. It's quick, but thirsty...;-)

Got to say - all pretty optimistic fuel returns I think...

Mine would do 30mpg if my wife drove it like "driving miss daisy"

about 18 - 23 mpg average driving.

10 or less on a good thrash!

I've been thinking about one of these to replace my S3. How does it compare to the B7 4.2 (in performance, handling, mpg etc etc)?

You guys have got to be kidding! The guy wanted a realistic approach! The A4 2.8 I owned which is the same engine minus turbo's could only average over 30mpg when driven unrealistically slowly! Low 20's would be a realistic figure for the A4 30quattro so an S4 cannot do more! Ps The 6th gear in the S4 is only 'just' lower geared than 5th in the A4 in case you were thinking that’s the reason.

The only reasonable response got hammered but I think you are all kidding yourselves!

Exactly.

I'm just trying to tell it the way it is!

But believe me 30mpg is acheivable going desparately slow, i.e. at thesame speed as the people in normal cars!

I go to work and back which is only 10 minute drive, and then i just drive locally to be honest (unless going for a nice long drive at weekends). I probably average in mine about 21-22mpg,but it does depend how far you personally would be travelling.

Hope this is of help .
