Evening all.

Have just aquired a 97 1.9D Polo with no manual.

Can anyone tell me what oil I should put in it. I guess tyre pressures would be handy too.

Cheers.

Don't often see you 'round these parts!

I have nothing useful to say, other than check the driver's door trim. That's where I have found tyre pressure ratings in past. Otherwise, pop into your friendly VW parts shop thumbup or dealership - they'll no doubt be able to help.

Halfrauds should have an oil guide, or on the General Gassing theres a Sticky which may help.

Ow do. wavey

It doesn't appear to be using any fuel. Should I be worried?

Umm, well if you've just bought it then i'd worry that the needle is broken, maybe carry a can. Otherwise nope dont worry.

It was working last week. Went down to nearly the orange bit, but after I've filled up there has only been a tiny bit of movement. Seems very odd!

As for the fuel, I'd think a stuck float/sensor/needle

Oil - I always trust Amsoil, but have no clue about what ratings you shoud use, or Amosil is availible in Europe (assuming you's over there)

Tire pressures should be in the door sills, usu. Passanger but a previous car (i think a 2000ish A6) was on rear drivers side.

good luck, newly aquired cars are fun esp. if its one you have a passion for

I've sorted the fuel issue - it is just overly economical and the needle moves down veeerrrry slowly. I suppose that is probably a good thing.

No stickers for the pressure on the doors, but I have found it is supposd to be 2.1 bar.

You've found the answer to the tyre pressure now but just thought it would be worth mentioning that you may well find that there is a sticker on the inside of the fuel flap with the advised tyre pressures. At least that is where it is on my Golf Mk 3.

most VAG later stuff is on a sticker on the fuel filler and the fuel needle on mine seems to creep down!!

It must be the 44MPG that i am getting 650 miles between fill ups !! its more like 150 in the griff
