Hi Guys,
I have a 2003 A6 1.8T Quattro for 6 month now and i have to say I am not impressed at all by the fuel consumption. My wife does C. 26mpg. I have managed a 27.5mpg on a long & slow run.
Is this really as good as it can get?
I was expecting something around 32mpg being carefull...

Other than that, absolutely fantastic motor for... £8k -70k miles-

That engine (albeit in the smaller, lighter Octavia) can do 39MPG on a long steady 50-60mph run. General everyday driving I get about 27MPG

Two points:

A6 - its a bit old lump of car and the 1.8T will have to work for a living hauling it around.

Quattro - famous for its impact on fuel consumption even on the derv-drinkers.

I had the A3 Sport 1.8T, and never really saw an average of more than 30mpg driving

A good while ago now I had the same model A6, a 2.8 Quattro manual. Only for a few hundred miles but I recall it did about 28MPG, mixture of country driving and a bit of short motorway work.

Not too bad I don't reckon - I would have thought the 1.8T would be a good mix of economy and torquey turboness. I guess not.

My 1997 A6 1.8T averaged 29mpg with lots of town driving. Got 30mpg once on a long trip at 80-90mph. Never got below 28 even driving like an arse. This is using proper measuring - not the computer. Not great, but not bad.

More town work would see the bigger engined cars mpg drop much lower.

Our A3 1.8T averaged 33ish.

Our new Golf 2.0T will do 39-40 on a run, 31-32 around town. I noticed a that 70mph cruising = over 36mpg whereas 90mph is more like 32mpg driving Sometimes I hate computers - they make me feel guilty.

OK guys, reading your posts, it about stacks up. It is true that the A6 Q is a bit on the heavy side and the transmission efficiency -or lack of!- tend to make things a bit worse.
Thanks for the feedback and I will carry on filling it up rolleyes

And better economy when driven sensibly

I've seen a calculated 37 mpg out of my Octavia RS on a longggg Euro run. At least until i got to Germany anyway hehe
