Hi,

Advice needed please, I am looking to buy an Audi 80 Coupe. Unfortunately my budget will only stretch to a 2 litre. I've had trouble finding info on them; were they considered a good drivers car? Or am I one short step away from buying a complete turkey?

This will be a second car to tat about in but i still want it to be, relatively, reliable (I'm presuming it will be 'cause it's German)

Any tech specs/general advice,info apprciated.

Cheers.

I have not owned a 2.0 coupe but have owner a 2.0 80 sport and currently own an S2 Coupe.

The 2.0 will not set the world alight in terms of pure driving pleasure but if you enjoy being cossetted in a very solid well built coupe that still looks modern today then you will love it. The build quality of Audis from the late 80's and early 90's is fantastic. My 80 sport had 250,000 miles on it when I sold it and all that it had needed was reguarly servicing and some valve stem seals and a head grind at 200,000 miles.

As long as you don't buy a lemon you can't go wrong IMO.

There is loads and loads of info at www.audifans.net too.

HTH

Cheers,

Steve.

Hi Steve,

thanks for advice and the internet link...I'm going to see an example on Sunday that has done 66,000 miles and looks pristine. Is there anything in particular I should check for when examining the car?

I realise that the 2 litre wont set the world alight, as you say, I'm sure your S2 does though!! - any pics?

Cheers...Matt

I have owned my 80 2.0l for 2 years now it has done 104000 mls and had no problems with it. We even used it for the 1000 mile Le Mans trip last year. and would recommend owning one. picked mine up for £950 so you should fine a lower milage one for a little more

Well I took the plunge and bought a 1995 model year 2.0 8v with 66k on the clock. It cost me a shade under two grand and is pretty much immaculate inside and out. Will try and post some pics soon. It cruised at a steady 75-80 on the way back home and felt as solid as a rock and while no rocket ship, it still had useable performance in reserve. I'm well chuffed with it!
