Folks,
Im pleased to report that my wife and I are due a baby in approx 3/4 wks.
Until now we were thinking of getting an A3 sportback 2.0 tdi. However, we will only use it around town, and the occasional trip Lond-B'ham. Therefore, I need your opinions in a hurry about the 1.6 FSI sportback, what are your views/experiences on this model please?
Thx.

Why the change in direction about engine? I would have thought for town driving a diesel would be better and residuals wise, would perform slightly better than the 1.6FSi
If you manage to get a 2.0TDi 170ps S-Line it is probably the best of the bunch and what I would go for if I had to change to an A3 Sportback and I'm a pretrol lover!

I've got the 2.0l 170psi Golf GT Tdi.
It's a great engine and it goes very well.

Nice car, but watch out for the DPF on these motors, they don't like too much pootling around in traffic at low speeds as they tend to block up. They need a good thrash every fortnight or so to keep clear.

I've also heard this and it's why remapping them is posing a problem too. But a decent engine nonetheless, you just have to keep it on boost like any turbo car for the best performance andf the mpg return will pay for itself.
