Hi guys,

Wandering if anyone has got any ideas about a strange problem with the brakes on my motor.

Driving to work this morning and someone pulled out on me so I had to slam on. As I was slowing down the pedal felt really spongy, I thought that this was just the ABS kicking in but after I stopped the brake warning light (the one that looks like (!) ) was flashing and the ESP warning light was on.

I tried the brakes again and now they initially feel ok, but after your foot has been on for a second or two, or if you 'pump' them a few times the pedal goes spongy and goes to the floor again.

My first guess would be that the fluid is low, but its strange that this has never happened before (even with repeated heavy use), or that I have a leaking seal somewhere? Going to check the fluid level when it gets light in a bit.

By the way the my car is a 51 plate Audi S3.

Anyone else experienced this or anything similar?

Cheers guys, any help much appreciciated!

Si.

How long is it since the fluid was changed?

Cheers guys,

A quick update - just been out to have a look and fluid level was ok, so took it for a drive up and down the carpark and discovered that I now have even less brakes - the pedal pretty much goes to the floor!

Had a closer look and there is fluid dripping out from what I think is the bottom of the reservoir!! Needless to say I will be getting the car recovered to a garage.

Will have to wait and see what they reckon the problem is, but I'm finding it a bit worrying that something like this has gone wrong on a 5 year old car - resulting in what could potentialy have been a total brake failure.

My car is out of warantee, but do you think I'm being reasonable in thinking that something like this should be fixed free of charge?

Cheers

Si.

Why on earth do you think it should be fixed for free?

Because it's a 5 year old car, done x,000 miles, plastic age hardens, seals perish, the weather has been freezing, and the fluid reservoir will have been exposed to massive changes of hot to cold over the last few weeks. Of course it's audi's fault and should be done for free and while their at it I want a full valet, and can you replace the tyres, brake pads, and windscreen wiper blades as i think it's unreasonable they have worn out in 20,000 miles, oh yes nearly forgot a new indicator bulb as well please.............grumble grumble grumble bloody audi build quality grumble grumble
