golf GT badge or no badge
Discussion
Hi all just looking this weekend at a golf GT, I am confused like a girl is normally why some of the golfs dont show the GT badge on the front grill, but in the brochure It says you get that different grill. Is it because of the age of the car.
Is it best to get a brand new one?.
Would i get more discount off a new one.

When the MKV was released, a gt model was available which looked the same as the normal golf but had additional features such as sports suspension, auto dim mirror etc.
VW then decided to release the Golf GT which had exactly the same additional ‘bits’ but also had a revised front grill.
At this stage, VW rebranded all the existing Golf Gt’s to ‘a Golf with add on’s’ and as such shouldn’t be sold as a GT as this is now a different model
Throughout the family we have one of each and the ‘GT’ looks much better with the front grill!
Hope this helps

did you buy it brand new? what the one 170 or the 140 PS can i ask what extra you go on it and how much you paid for it.

Mines a company car.
It's an ex-demonstrator with about 2,200 miles on the clock. It's about 2 months old.
It's the 2.0l 170 ps version with leather, heated seats, electric sunroof, armrest, rear parking sensors, paddle-shift gears (DSG) auto-box thingy, folding wing mirrors, xenon headlights, ipod connection, sun roof and a different set of alloys.
I think it also has a convenience pack which brings on the headlights when you unlock the car at night and which puts on the lights when you're driving and it gets dark.
Oh and a six stack cd-player.
We paid about £24,500'ish for it and I'm very impressed so far.
I don't think that you get any or much discount but look at the VW website and ring a few dealers to get the best spec that you can afford.
I bought mine from VW Crewe and they delivered it to my home same-day.

let me get this right the It's the 2.0l 170 ps version comes with leathers and parking sensors etc. but foes the 2.0l 140ps version come with anything?
No it doesn't come with everything at all.
Most of these items, including leather, were put on the car as extras by the dealer, who worked out a selling price bearing in mind the extras fitted.
I could have bought the same car without all of this stuff for just under £20,000.
Work out what you can afford and then look on the various websites for the best spec that you can buy for your price.
I didn't look at or consider the 140 ps, so can't comment on that version.
If you look on the VW website and at the used car section, do a search based on what you are looking for.
I bought mine, sitting on my bum in the office, although I did test drive one a few days earlier.
If you buy from a dealer, you get the 30 days exchange option which means that if you don't like the car, you can change it. There are though some stipulations to this and I haven't got the details to hand.
I've had Porsches, Ferrari (classics) Mercs, Discoverys, Touaregs and loads of other cars and I really am impressed with the Golf so far.

good good I am very tempeted getting a new one now just seeing if leathers are really needed for £1,650. Have you got a photo of the car would be nice to see what the colour looks like, as cant decide myself
I like leather in my cars because it's easier to keep clean and, I'm told, it helps the residual values.
Sorry but I'm crap at posting photos on here.
If you email me with an address to david@lythgoe-estates.com then I'll send through some pics.
Mine's black with black leather interior.
Look on the VW website, some show interior and exterior photos.
Better still, go and try one out!

To be honest didn't notice that much difference between the two, a more useable 1st gear if anything.
I tried the 170 last year. I got my 140 back in early 2005 and it has been a truly great car.
Averaging c44mpg and will keep up with almost anything, especially through the twisties - the suspension is just right.

got my gt170tdi 8 weeks ago after a frankly ridiculous 17 week wait.
nice car, lots of torque but loads of turbo lag then boom, it takes off like a subaru turbo (not the sti unfortunately) 1st gear is usless, all wheelspin and short gearing. rides nice, feels solid, great brakes, fairly quiet and does 50+mpg at a steady 80 with 44mpg driven briskly.
looking at the superchip upgrade for £510 for an extra 37bhp.
