I need some help with a idleing problem. It is idleing erratically (revs to 2k rpm and drops this happens when stationery).

Any ideas or anyone that can diagnose it without the cost of the stealers?

It's a 88/89 Golf G60 right? I only know for looking on ETKA.

My solution is MkIV related. I had the high idling problem and it turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor. Also caused starting problems. Could also be air mass meter. I can't find a coolant sensor for the G60. Doesn't mean it doesn't have one tho.

Hope you get it sorted and if you need any part no's give me a shout!!

I had this in one form or another on my G60 (although you have a rallye, I think the 1H engine only differed slightly from the PG). First thing to check: There is a 1m hose leading from the ECU to the back of the inlet manifold. There you will find two nipples (arf) just behind the throttle assembly. Check that the hose isn't worn, and there is air getting in. There should be another hose leading off round the front to the carbon canister (presuming you haven't already removed it. It's like the appendix in the human body on older engines). Anyway, check for air leaks there.

Alternatively, your best bet is to head over to www.dubforce.net/forum and have a word with the friendly technical members over there. I used to own a Mk2 G60, and they're all dead helpful. I think between us we had about 60-70% of the rallyes/G60s in the UK today!

Finally, you could simply call Darren from G-Werks who knows these things inside out. Based in littlehampton in sussex. Although he runs the garage as a living, he's always everso helpful if a little advice is needed! Give him a call.
