door seals

anybody had any probs with door seals on a mk4 golf? my carpets r soakin and thats the only thing i can think of as they dont look 2 good. its only a 02 plate so not that old

I was getting wind noise from mine on the OSF door. Had a quick look and it had come off this little ledge. Just put it bak over it and it was okay. This was in the sumer so im not sure weather it wud have leaked or not and dont know wether its a common fault. Seemed a shitty design though.

When working at Bentley, I remember all of the employees with Golfs etc having problems with the doors seals as in the winter, as water gets into the seals and freezes making the doors impossible to open! The local stealer had lots of warrenty claims for torn door seals!

the door seal son a mk4 around the upper edges of the door are a felt like design and yes they do tear with use ( frozen) but I've not seen one leak enough to make the car wet inside.

I did have an issue with a mk3 golf ( same basic design) where the water came in from the area under the windscreen ( under the plastic cover) in that instance water was coming thru the sound deadening mat and a seam. solved by lifting the platci cover around the wipers and resealing the whole of the area with liquid rubber.

Why are you not just spraying it with water and seeing where its coming in?
