TT (old shape) BHP Question
Discussion
I've been looking at getting a used TT ... but the more I look the more I get confused on the the BHPs for the 1.8T's.
I've seen anything from 150's upto 240 bhp and various inbetween. My choice would be a 225bhp, but I can't find any new'ish examples.
Can anyone explain to me which is which and when they were produced?

Launch models were the 180 and 225bhp versions. Usually distinguishable by the 180 having a single exhaust on the left, the 225 has one each side although I think the 225 exhaust system was an option on the 180
Later came the 250bhp 3.2 V6 with optional DSG gearbox. I think the next model to be added was the non-Quattro 150bhp 1.8T though I don't know much about this one. Not sure how successful it was.
Before the Mk1 gave way to the new model Audi made a short run of 'Quattro sport' models with 240bhp from the 1.8T engine. It was lighter, had different wheels and the same bodykit as fitted to the 3.2. Notably different from the other cars in that it has a black roof regardless of body colour.

Cheers lads .. the TT OC was a mine of info...

Then in 2005 they added the "TT Coupé quattro Sport" Priced between a 225 and a 3.2, it will be available from March '05. Based upon the existing 225, it will however, produce 240PS (and 40Nm extra torque), and take some of the styling cues (spoiler and front valance) from the 3.2
Gone are the rear seats, air con and spare wheel, and in come colour coded Recaros and interior - reducing the overall weight by 49Kg.
It also gets a revised sports suspension package and a rear stabilty bar (where the rear seats are normally).
To distinguish it further from previous models, the roof and mirrors will be pearlesant black.
Then in December 2005 saw the last 225bhp TT's due to EU4 emission standards. This would explain my search lacking in new'ish, low mileage 225s!

I have owned two TT's a 180 and then a 225 (modified to 270bhp!) They are great cars and I would defo recommend the 225 over the 180 otherwise you will suffer from what is known as 'twin pipe envy'!! (due to the 180 only having the single exhaust pipe!)
Depending on budget I would be looking for a Quattro Sport 240 if I was in the market for another TT. Together with the power hike you get individual wheels/recaro interior and different external colour schemes from the norm. Although they are 2 seaters only. If you keep an eye on the for sale section of the TT Forum you should be able to get one for around 20k....

I'd ideally like a 225 as it has the power and a good mpg. But I'm finding it hard to find a 225 on a 55 plate with low mileage.
I have a max of 20k to spend, so really the Sport and even 3.2's are availble to me. I love the look of the Sports exterior but wish they had left the interior alone, the seats are too "sports" for day 2 day driving and there's no Air con! So may be I'll have to take the hit with the fuel cost ;-)
