think you will find the regulator cable has broken, if iam right you can get a ready built up regulator or a repair kit with cable and pulleys

very common issue with the mk4, plastic clips on regulator break, the replacement one is metal. push vw to pay some of the cost even outside of the warranty period. it's a fundamental design flaw.

Can confirm the platic clip issue. Wife's MkIV had this happen on both windows - both replaced with metal ones under warranty - wouldn't replace noth together, only once each had gone wrong separately.

Windows in both cases fell into the door itself......

What a bloody nightmare VW are sometimes. I ordered a new Window Regulator Kit from VW dealer. problem is there are two kits. One of the kits are for the hole metal plate what go's onto the door, that retails for £70. The other kit is just for the replacement Window Regulator bracket, and they retail for £25.

Now, what VW will not tell you is that the more expensive Window Regulator Kit has the same plastic Window Regulator bracket as the old one, and can brake again. But the cheaper Window Regulator Kit has the modified metal bracket, and are the part you need if you do not what this problem to happen again.

It is bad to think a company like VW can get away with this shit.

The fixing kit has the Metal Regulator clips, and new wirier. That it. I must admit that getting the new clip on is defiantly a two man job, it was bloody hard work.
