Is there any where out there these can be bought for a good price?
VW want £175!!

Only got one key and constantly fret about losing it.
Or maybe it's possible to buy a cheaper non flappy paddle key?

Do you need just the flip bit or the electronics as well? I think when I bought one before the flip alone was about £60. If you just want the key can a normal key cutters do it? Otherwise is ebay & reprogramming an option?

As stated i only have on key, don't care if its flappy or not but would need to be inlusive of the electronics.

Would a complete flappy key froma breakers be useable in a different car if the 'key' part was replaced?

From memory the fob bit will then need to be reprogrammed (dealer job?) to allow it to deactivate the immobiliser. Just sticking the key bit in will only physically open the door

Blank one advertised on uk-mkivs.net at the moment for £50. Also several sets of instructions on there for programming new keys to a car.

Some stuff can be done by sequences of button pressing and unlocking but when I tried these on non-functional third key that came with my car I only managed to make it lock/unlock the doors but not start the engine - comes up with 'immobiliser' on the dash.

I think you need either a dealer or a copy of Vag-Com and a code to program it to the ECU.

our Sharan has 2 keys. only one is a flip key.
the second is a normal key.

using the second key, you can also open the doors and drive the vehicle. when we asked VW why there was only one flip kep they told us it was a cost cutting feature of new VW's.
Im guessing the new non flip kep has a chip in it too ....
