Running in a new RS4
Discussion
I collect my new RS4 avant on Tuesday and am naturally very excited...just wondered what owners have done by way of running in?
You hear so many conflicting views on running in new cars in general but would be keen to hear marque specific views. Obviously prospect of tooling around at max 4000rpm for 1000 miles deeply unattractive given what I hear about the car's performance.....

I took it easy for 500 miles, then 6000 rpm for the next 1000 then graduely used upto 7500rpm until 2k miles. Have 7k under the belt now and it just gets better. I can not seriosuly think of another car I would replace it with!
p.s enjoy ;-) You will have a smile ear to ear soon!

I collect my first Audi on the 5th of Jan - although, it is slightly less exciting than your RS4 - a 1991 80 2.0i 16v Sport...
Dont know if it helps, but there was a letter in this months EVO (issue 100, page 37) asking about soft and hard running in for new engines. Part of Jeff Daniels reply was:
"Personally, I try to treat an engine with a bit of mechanical sympathy when starting from new, without being entirely 'soft'. I dont willingly floor the accelerator before 1500km, but I dont mind high revs as such. Remember, most of the maximum loads within an engine occur at peak torque, which can be at 3000rpm or even less."
I'm no expert, and you've probs already read this. But either way, you're a lucky git ;-P
