Stereo Woe!

After replacing the battery on the 2001 S3 I can't input the radio code back into the Symphony stereo. The main dealer has told me that this is due to the number buttons being broken and will, of course, require a new Symphony head unit.

Does anyone have experience of this problem?

If the worst comes to the worst and I do have to replace it, does anyone have a good alternative to the original that looks as good as it sounds?
