A4 warming up question
Discussion
Recently got myself a 1.9 TDI A4 Avant. Never had an Audi or a diesel before. Fantastic car however it takes about 15 mins to warm up in the morning. As soon as I leave my house I hit a traffic jam and sit there for 10 mins+, all this time the engine is cold, it takes a further 5 minutes+ when I get onto the motorway for it to get to normal temp. Is this just a diesel thing/ Audi thing?
they do take a while as the have a big viscous (spelling) fan drawing cool air through the rad, this is why when idling they cool down ;-) 15mins sounds a little to long I would get the thermostat checked.
A little tip , turn off the aircon as that will also turn off the electric cooling fan that comes on when the aircon is activated.

Its all to do with thermodynamic efficiency. The 1.9 TDI engine is so good at taking energy from the fuel that little is left over as waste heat.
