Hello all,

I run a 02 225 Audi TT and have noticed that the centre console emits what sounds like a low electronic buzzing noise. It can come and go and initially I thought it was the concert radio, but upon turning this off it still remained. Not noticeable at speed or with stereo on but still want to get to the bottom of this!

Can anyone help? Much appreciated!!

If it's got climate control (perhaps they all have?) then the noise might be the cabin temperature sensors doing their thing.

My '95 E-class Merc has a small slotted intake in the headlining about the size of a 10 pence piece and behind the slots is a tiny fan sucking cabin air onto a temperature sensor. If the ignition's on and the ventilation fan is on its lowest setting I can sometimes just about hear a noise from the slots.

My new A6 has a few similar slots (including one right below the stereo), so I'm guessing these are the same sort of thing. They monitor the cabin temperature and feed the relevant signals to the climate control so it can direct the air to the right places.

Could be them you can hear.

Put your finger over the air slots on the climate control unit. If this stops it. You'll need to replce the unit.

Had a look at this last night and found that the buzzing stopped when I covered the intake to the climate control unit - bugger!!

Alas this sounds like it means I need a new unit - before I get a heart attack from the dealers, does anyone know what this might approximately cost?

Many Thanks!!

Is it still working? I'd leave it 'til it fails if I were you, if the only symptom is a slight buzzing that's not really noticeable...

These things are £££ from dealers. There are often a couple on eBay though.
