Some advice from any A4 drivers please?

I'm considering purchasing a 2001 Audi A4 2.0L SPORT from a friend of mine. I currently own a Golf Gti Turbo, however remember when purchasing this that the performance was considerable better than the Gti 2.0L (Non Turbo) model. Is this also the case with the A4 engine? Should I hang out for a 1.8 Turbo model, or is the 2.0L engine good enough.. I'm not interested in 0-60 times, I don't drive fast, but I know the Gti Turbo is a much better engine than the non-turbo for zipping around town and up the motorway as it pulls so hard when you need it to - yet the MPG is returning around 37 on a good run if driven sensibly. Has anyone driven either models that could comment?

I would like the Tdi model but I don't think my 8-10k miles a year will justify the extra cost.

Also, is there anything else I should be aware of when looking at these A4's?

Not quite the same but close,

I had a Golf 2.3 V5 (170bhp)on a 52 plate up untill this time last year. Problem after problem (£1000) made me give it up.

I now have a Audi A4 special edition 1.8 Turbo (163bhp)

For only a few BHP the Audi is noticably less quick. Remember that the A4 is so much bigger then the Golf. Apart from that The A4 provides a better drive then the Golf, I do miss the V5 engine, it had some grunt.

But overall one year on, I think the A4 is the best car I have ever had.

Hey thanks for that.I now have the car and it really is cracking. I would like to change the alloys to 17'' mind, but apart from that I'm loving it!
