looking for a second/winter car for work etc, thought A4 quattro would be a good candidate,

found a 97 p reg in silver, just the usual spec, with a nice set of 19" rs6 wheels.

BUT the mileage is 150,000. should i just forget it or is that mileage ok on these engines? the price is £2450 ono.

also are there any common problems in particular i should look out for when i go to see it?

as im not clued up on these cars would appreciate any advice from people who know a bit about them.

thanks

graham

First thing, loose the 19" wheels to regain some quality to the ride. Ask the seller if he has the original wheels?

The price is a little on the high side for that sort of miles, if the car has a full history, no accident damage, no clonks from the front suspension, no water leaks, is generally straight and you like it then buy it.

I had an A6 with the 2.8 V6 in. Cracking engine, never any problems with well over 100,000 miles on it. Just watch the oil levels. (Might be interested in the wheels as well!)

iv managed to agree £2000, from the pictures he sent im quite happy with the condition of it for the mileage, regarding the 19" wheels, i probably will find the ride comfortable enough considoring my current drive to work is my TVR T350 with nitron shocks. (firm to say the least on aberdeen's roads) i will probably just drive it until april, sell the 19's and put the standard wheels back on to sell the car, shouldnt loose much money at all.

when i see/drive it will check oil levels and for clunking noises, should it have a clunk what might it cost to fix? as i will knock it off the price should i find anything.

I'm sure you'll get a few £000 for the wheels from young Golf drivers wanting to pimp their ride.

IIRC Audi did a recall regarding the front suspension arms. Might be worth checking to see if it has been done as I understand it is a weak point.
