I'm toying with an RS6 as the next daily barge (well I don't do THAT many miles and I might as well enjoy it while I can).

- What's the flappy gearbox like?
- Can you derestrict them? If yes, what'll it do Mr? (I'm serious when I say in Germany on the Autobahn and not in the UK too - I rarely go over 120 over here).

Yes, I will ask the chaps at www.rs246.com too...

Good around town for holding a gear rather than the 'box jumping up and down between 1 and 2. it can be overridden by the autobox though in both senses i.e if you stick your foot down in gear 5 at low revs it will still kick down as it will change up if you hit the red line.

I would highly recommend a re-map for the gear box alone, smoother and quicker need I say more. I can't say what the new top speed is as I haven't pushed it but I remember reading one guy nearing 180 at a Vmax day...

The car concerned (owned by a PHer) had a lot more done than remapping. Think it was putting out about 570bhp.

I think that car is now for sale - I think it was him posting on the RS forums.

I'd like Mugello blue with silver leather or Akoya Silver (light blue) with Black leather. Something like the one at Fontain Motors at the moment.

Not changing until next spring at the earliest though. I just enjoy planning and thinking about it.

Hello Daz, I believe he's moved onto an M5 now and I'm pretty sure you're right in as much he had just about everything you could do to it other than NOS it... Mine read just over 520bhp on the rolling road but AMD said the weak point is the gearbox so my planned NOS idea wasn't a good idea.... It's leaps and bounds over the standard car as it is now though with just over 70bhp more......

gearbox is fine for road use - allows you to leave it in 3rd/4th for B roads etc.

Just get a custom remap and de-restriction (about £800-1000) - will give around 500bhp - as for top end....well generally with 500bhp they will do 180 to 185ish (maybe more if you have long enough road)

you need about 600bhp in one to break the double ton (which is very expensive to get to)

I have no intention of taking an RS6 on the track - I like RWD and no electronic aids on the track - its me and the car, not me and the computer. For a F-off fast road car for all round use though its a different story.

exactly ...if you want a track car, get an Elise with 300bhp Audi or Honda lump in the back....for the ultimate in discreet, fast, practical daily transport then an RS6 Avant is king

The RS6 that did 180 at the VMax events I believe was around 550-560 bhp. But I must say RS6's look aggressive and sound fantastic IMHO

Afternoon, only just spotted this thread.

It was my RS6 tht actually managed 181MPH through the trap. Levels were 552.3BHP & 553.2lbsft. Mods were engine & gearbox map (courtesy of AmD), full Milltek zorst including sports cats then a whole host of Sportec goodies including larger intercoolers, ram-air, upgraded engine & gearbox cooling systems & piping etc. Also had Sportec/H&R sports springs. I think at that level 200MPH would have been possible or at the very least close to the mark. Now running a DMS E60 M5 with 548BHP & according to DMS it's capable of 205MPH (no idea where i'd find a place long or safe enough to test that out). It would run exactly the same speeds & times etc. as the RS6 i owned (this was tested extensivley at VMAX last year).

My advice would be just to go down the engine & gearbox re-map route. By far the best band for buck, as those little extra's over & above the mapping i had fitted, cost close to £7K & only gave negligable gains.
