Hi,

I am mulling over getting an Audi Coupe as a runabout

Not a TT, the older one in mid - later 90s, slightly curvy body, high slab doors etc.

Does anyone know when I can get info / specification / dimensions ?

Or a speciailst dealer in the south?

Thanks,

Koenig

That particular model was run from late 1988 up until 1996.

I dont know of any website in particular that can give you some details on the car but I can testify and tell you that they are practically bullet proof and will keep going on for miles and miles.

What model are you looking for? They start off the baby of the bunch which:
- 4 cylinder 2.0E 8v/16v (115bhp/140bhp respectively)
- 5 cylinder 2.2E/2.3E (not entirely sure of the BHP)
- 5 cylinder 2.3 20V (170bhp)
- 6 cylinder 2.6 V6 (150bhp)
- 6 cylinder 2.8 V6 (174bhp)
- 5 cylinder 2.2 20V Turbo S2 (220/230bhp)

I currently run and own two audi coupes and I have never had any real bother with either of them. I recently had a clutch changed on my 2.0 8v but its sitting at 164k and is still running pretty well, so don't be put off my higher mileage cars, just make sure it has been looked after properly.

What model coupe are you looking to buy in particular?

2226cc (KV) & 2309cc (NG) engines are both 136bhp according to Audi.

The coupes can of course also be had in a variety of Quattro flavours.

Thank you.

Yes they can be had in quattro but as far as I am aware, not the 4 cylinder engined ones.

Agreed

But as a run around perhaps the 2.0 8v...or perhaps I am plugging the fact that mine will be up for sale very soon!

Thanks for the replies so far.

What do you think of this one?

(The one at the bottom of the list, after all the Golfs)

Is it worth the cash?

Anything particular to look for other than rust and nasty noises?

Well rust should never be an issue as they are fully galvernised, so start asking questions if you spot rust.

The main faults on all coupes are leaking light clusters which can easily be sealed, squeaking tailgates which can also by cured quite easily and the lower seals on the door can bend with time or people catching the door on a high kerb.

The V6 was the only range (both 2.6 and 2.8) that had suspension problems, so make sure there isnt any play / slop in the steering / bangs whilst driving it. I havent heard of this too often but its something you should be well aware of.

Oh and as for price, my guess would be that the car you are looking at is at the higher end of the price scale.

But each car is different, make sure you view a few and get a feel for them.

The V6 engines leak oil, lots, and from a wide and interesting variety of places.

Hello - Audi Coupe owner here - 2.8 Quattro on 150K.

I think its a great car, understated looks, a bit of power, and plenty of traction.

Most would consider the miles high, but mine is perfectly reliable and 'solid'.

I think the general consensus is that the engines and drivetrains are bullet proof if maintained - but the car may not offer ultimate driver involvement. The steering is a little light on mine - and it prob would benefit from some uprated shocks and springs.

The cars are much rarer than BMW coupes for instance, and I think you can find good value examples out there. The one you mentioned is certainly at the higher end of the price range - keep you eyes open on ebay and autotrader as a few good ones do come up. Mine was a 1 owner car before I got it, and has benefit of FSH (90% Audi Main Dealer).

Good luck

You could buy an Ebay S2 Coupe for that money.

I've driven S2s for that sort of money and they felt "soggy", so if you do be careful.

Well to honest, I have never driven a standard S2 so I couldnt tell you how they handle anyway, but mine handles extremely well and feels very tight.
