Hi chaps,

Just wondering if you can shed some light on a problem I'm having with my Audi A3 1.9TDi SE. Just recently it will only go to a maximum speed of 80mph with the peddle full down. It runs fine up to that speed but won't go any faster. Have any of you had the same problem or can you point me in the right direction. Is there anything I can check or is it electronic and have to take it to the garage?

Hope you can help me, it's really annoying!!

Regards,

Mark.

Has it lost power throughout the rev range?
Sounds similar issues as we experienced on ours when the N75 valve failed.
Check with Vag-Com for Faults.

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. All I can say is everything seems OK when starting, driving around town, doing normal town speeds etc. When you get it on an open road like a motorway and put you foot down it gets to 80mph then just sits there. The revs are 2500rpm there abouts, give or take in 5th gear. It drives OK and there is no sign of problems apart from it just sits there and won't go any faster.

I haven't checked the fault log, is that were you do the key press on the centre console where the climate control is. I do know how to do this but what am I looking for please, what fault? Also if it is the same problem how can it be rectified, is it a job only a garage can do?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate any feedback.

Regards,

Mark.

Sounds like the Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF). When mine had failed (A6 1.9Tdi) the car would give up accellerating at pathetically low revs, and wouldn't go over 75-80 ish. Try disconnecting it and see if there is some improvement. If so it probably is the MAF. I believe that it is a common fault....oh, and if it is the MAF, get the proper Bosch replacement as the cheaper replacements are rubbish.

I would second the MAF theory, and add that with a MAF problem you should be experiencing significant MPG reduction and more black smoke.

Hey fellas,

Thanks for all you replies, you've been a great help. I think I will go down that route as it seems to be a common problem. If it is anything else I'll post and ley you know.

Thanks again.

Mark.
